All the reading slots in the open mike event on Saturday at this year’s Linlithgow Book Festival have now been taken. We will operate a reserve list for anyone else who’s interested in reading, in case other readers can’t make it. Of course, anyone is still more than welcome to come along and listen. After all, what’s a reading without an audience?

STOP PRESS: Tam Dalyell — New Venue and More Tickets

Due to the demand for tickets, the Tam Dalyell event has moved from the Masonic Hall to Linlithgow Academy, which means the event is no longer sold out and there are now plenty of spaces. The time and date remain the same: 11 am on Saturday, 5 November.

Come and hear Tam discuss his autobiography and the major issues he was involved in during his political life, The Importance of Being Awkward. Tickets can be purchased from the usual outlets.

The next Linlithgow Literary Lunch takes place on Monday 10 October 2011, 12 noon for 12.30. The speaker will be Alan Taylor of the Sunday Herald and The Scottish Review of Books.

Tickets are £20 — which includes two courses, wine and discussion — and available from The Line Gallery and David Tait of Linlithgow Business Association.

Linlithgow Business Association and Linlithgow Book Festival are proud to promote a literary lunch at Livingston’s Restaurant on Tuesday April 5th at 12.30.

The featured speaker is the renowned biographer and historian of war and empire, Trevor Royle. Trevor is associate and diplomatic editor of the Sunday Herald and a regular commentator on international affairs for BBC radio. He will speak on current events in North Africa and the Middle East and their historical background.

LBF 2011 — Provisional Programme

The programme for this year’s LBF is coming together beautifully. Here’s what we have lined up for you so far:

On Friday 4th November, the festival kicks off with Christopher Brookmyre on his latest book, Where the Bodies are Buried.

Saturday 5th November starts with a poetry workshop by Andrew Philip, and Tam Dalyell speaking on his autobiography, The Importance of Being Awkward. In the afternoon, it continues with James Robertson on his Saltire prize-winning novel, And the Land Lay Still; Janice Galloway on All Made Up, the second volume of her memoirs; and an Open University event on the forthcoming OU/BBC2 programme Towns. The evening brings us Falkirk’s Alan Bissett on his novels Pack Men and Boyracers, followed by the popular and eye-opening Open Mike.

Sunday 6th November will feature children’s events presented by Little Owls Books (formerly Blast Off Books).

The LBF open mike returns for a third year. Come and catch some great new talent and established names (TBC) in the bar area of the Masonic Hall on Saturday night (30 October 2010). Why not join in and read your own work?
